Vento launches new AO bridge

Vento launches Vento Bridge, a new piece of DeFi infrastructure on AO.

GM!

Last week Vento launched a new AO bridge, expanding infrastructure options for users looking to bring liquidity from Ethereum and Arweave into AO.

Let's get into it.

Vento launched as a DEX aggregator on AO approximately one month ago, and was brought to the ecosystem by Vela Ventures (the team behind Beacon Wallet). DEX aggregators route swaps across multiple platforms to provide more efficient, cost-effective trades.

Last week Vento announced another piece of DeFi infrastructure they've been working on - Vento Bridge, a cross-chain bridge which allows for bridging tokens from Arweave and Ethereum.

Let's take a look at what this means for users and the ecosystem as a whole.

The bridge is still in beta and should be used at your own risk. Users should exercise caution and only bridge amounts they can afford to lose.

For users

AO now has a few major bridging platforms, including AOX, Astro's Quantum Bridge, and now Vento Bridge, too.

So why so many bridges? And how does it benefit AO?

Onboarding

For users to get involved in the AO ecosystem, they need some kind of liquidity to use. AO itself is primarily distributed to $AR holders or those who have bridged staked assets, and takes time for the emissions to build up.

For those who want to just get started and play around with AO dApps, bridging stablecoins is likely one of the most straight-forward ways.

Each bridge - AOX, Astro's Quantum, and Vento Bridge, all support slightly different chains (such as Quantum supporting Base, and AOX supporting BSC) and have different onboarding patterns.

More bridges with diversified features and designs means users can bring their liquidity into the AO ecosystem using the bridge that suits their needs best.

Competitive Decentralization

Bridges can often become points of centralization in ecosystems, so the more bridges AO has, generally means users end up with better fee structures and new features.

If one bridge also faces congestion, users can utilize a different bridge.

Vento's bridge may contribute to network effects and increased decentralization.

Vento's integration

As Vento's original product offering is a DEX aggregator, it can provide an almost all-in-one solution for those bridging tokens into the ecosystem.

They can bridge in one place, then swap for any tokens they desire, with efficient swap routing to reduce slippage. It will be interesting to see how adoption of Vento Bridge grows over the next few months.
