3 updates pushing permaweb UX forward

Wallet and marketplace updates, plus decentralized data queries at scale

GM fellow Arweaver!

We’re back in action after a short summer break. This week's issue covers a new way to access the permaweb, a marketplace relaunch worth paying attention to, and a data breakthrough that changes how builders can work with Arweave.

Let's dive in.

Good things come in waves 🌊

There's been a flurry of announcements across the Arweave ecosystem recently. With the migration from LegacyNet to HyperBEAM reaching its later stages, several key pieces are now falling into place, with new launches, old projects picking back up, and a continued push to decentralize permaweb infrastructure. If you’re reading this, then you’re paying attention at the right time.

Today, we’re taking a closer look at three developments that show this progress in action.

PermawebOS browser beta

The recently launched PermawebOS browser beta brings a new entry point to the permaweb, with a wallet, signer, and configurable route to Arweave and HyperBEAM, all inside a normal browser tab. The wallet supports $AR and $AO alongside support for Ledger hardware wallets.

The PermawebOS browser beta also sees the integration of Gatekeeper, a community-run publisher repository built by Decent Land Labs. Gatekeeper aims to keep permaweb visitors safe by flagging phishing sites and risky Arweave or AO destinations.

A few days after the launch, an update added Ethereum signing to the wallet. Assets held on an Ethereum key can now move straight into the PermawebOS wallet, with the same signing method extending to Bazar too, letting holders trade there without setting up a new key first.

Speaking of Bazar...

Bazar is back in action and better than ever.

The marketplace relaunched on Mainnet 1.0 and has already logged close to 5,000 events from over 70 unique market participants, with the migrated Dumdumz collection leading the way. Trading now runs through the ~arweave-scheduler@1.0 device, which settles orders directly on Arweave, instead of leaning on a single scheduler wallet the way it used to. This is a big upgrade for permaweb usability as assets trade directly against native $AR rather than the wrapped $wAR token from the testnet era.

The marketplace serves as a one-stop shop for users to trade both fungible tokens and unique atomic assets. Community favorite $TRUNK is already live, as well as the $wUSDC stablecoin.

The list of fungible and unique assets is growing steadily, so head over to bazar.arweave.net to see what’s on offer, or create your own listing.

Decentralized data queries

A recent HyperBEAM update lets nodes query large datasets stored on Arweave directly, pulling just the pieces they need instead of relying on a centralized indexer. Sam Williams has been testing this out with real uploads, including single transactions weighing in at 172 GB and 667 GB. The 172 GB upload backs a live demo called Chunkar, which runs queries directly against an index of 8.5 billion items.

This kind of data innovation takes us back to the arrival of bundling in 2021, when daily transactions began to see significant growth, and platforms like Metaplex developed around uploading massive NFT collections. Efficient querying looks like the other half of the story. Getting data onto Arweave has been made incredibly easy, and now finding it without leaning on centralized infrastructure is catching up, too.

It’s great news for builders of decentralized applications, as apps can eventually verify data for themselves instead of taking an indexer's word for it.

Plenty to look forward to

The energy in the air on the permaweb is quite exciting. There's a feeling of very accelerated development that is purposeful and inventive. Cheers to everyone building and jump on in if you haven't yet with the new tools :).
