Just Build

With AO-Core making steady progress, now's the time to build on the decentralized web.

GM fellow Arweaver!

It’s been a busy few days on the permaweb timeline following the first anniversary of AO’s mainnet. Sam Williams shared a strong message about the work ahead and gave us a preview of what’s coming our way on the hyper parallel computer.

Let's dive in.

Just Build 🛠️

It's not easy out there. Everyone’s being impacted by macroeconomics in the blockchain space. The good thing is that the mission remains, and giant strides are happening right now with the Permaweb.

As AO mainnet celebrated a solid first year, Sam Williams shared a powerful message about the work ahead (teaser: there’s still a lot to do).

But the mission and vision are as important as ever. As Arweavers, we share incredible time horizons and are intrinsically motivated by our values and integrity. These are the common strengths that will help guide us through this rough patch.

The decentralized web is worth building

The crypto industry has been fundamental in bringing people and capital together. It’s created a space where ideas can spur on massive change and encourage rapid development. But it’s an industry riddled with hype and speculation, where oftentimes projects create gaps between the promises they make and what the solutions they deliver.

Arweave’s blockweave has been working reliably for almost 8 years, doing one thing remarkably well: being a trusted place to preserve human knowledge and creativity.

Over time, this vision of an open cyberspace with built-in rights extended to a hyper parallel computer that serves as the backbone for a decentralized web.

Sam’s speech is a strong and timely reminder of the importance of this mission, and we cannot stress how important it is that you listen to it: “Web3 is almost dead”. And to think that Sam served as the President of the Web3 Working Group, you know that his words are not to be taken lightly.

Truly, we’re at a crossroads now. We have a tremendous engine in motion, with immense amounts of data, and a functioning blueprint for a beneficial supercomputer.

But the path we need to take is not visible to us at this crossroads. It’s up to us to build it.

With the exponential rise of misinformation and inauthentic content, this is a path worth building, no matter what obstacles come our way.

No hype, just achievements

The achievements of the permaweb community are astounding when you filter out the noise and focus on the progress.

Arweave’s codebase has grown to roughly 40,000 lines of code over eight years. More recently, the AO-Core codebase surpassed that milestone, totalling close to 65,000 lines in a much shorter timeframe.

We’re laying the foundation for beneficial intelligence to flourish, with verifiable guardrails in place to prove provenance and maintain security; all backed by the principles of permanence, immutability, and open access.

Yes, there are challenges now, and there will continue to be as we strengthen the stack, but what we’ve achieved together in this short period of time is something the community deserves to be immensely proud of.

AO-Core demo

The biggest highlight this week was the demo Sam Williams gave as he took Drew Pierson for a tour of AO-Core. With over 60 composable devices ready for use, Sam demonstrated how every state is addressable and remixable. This is the foundation for a truly decentralized web, where HTTP itself becomes a verifiable compute infrastructure.

You can check out the full demo on Odysee.

If you don't have the opportunity to follow the full presentation, community member Michael Bouchier summed it up nicely in his helpful TL;DR post.

Let’s get to work

2026 promises to be a tremendous year for breakthrough technologies, both in and out of crypto and AI. We expect to see the same pace and advancements on the permaweb, as there are massive opportunities for a trustless, permanent tech stack that can scale to the size of the internet itself.

Every individual has a role to play in this vision. There’s never been a better time to get hands-on and create things that matter.

This is our time.

Just build.
