The permaweb enables developers, creators, and everyday individuals to build static and dynamic artifacts meant for future eyes, not just current ones. Arweave offers a way to leave a digital legacy for your great-great-grandchildren.
From simple photos, to more expressive voice notes, to fully featured experiences designed just how you like them, what’s stored onchain can extend well beyond personal legacy.
Both individuals and institutions alike are using permanent storage to preserve records for future generations. The inherent traits of a permanent, transparent archive are what make Arweave appealing to journalists and reporters.
The blockweave’s reliable record makes archiving on Arweave an easy choice. Initiatives like Project Gutenberg and the CrimRxiv Archive make excellent use of this durability.
Permanent intelligence
Static records are only the starting point. In our piece on digital beings, we explored how the permaweb’s infrastructure opens the door to digital beings that persist permanently and can be interacted with, many generations from now.
The use cases are plentiful, ranging from preserving family members, to designing historical guides trained exclusively on data from their own era, to digital bonsai trees that grow a millimeter per year, cared for across generations.
The Digital Twin project offers a working example of this concept in practice, giving a glimpse of what it looks like when identity and intelligence are preserved onchain.
What’s interesting to note here is that, unlike most LLMs you may be used to, these models behave in a deterministic manner, meaning their outputs consistently match the same given input.
